Strikeforce Bought out by Zuffa AKA Gameover

Dana White was quoted as saying, “It’s a good deal.” Business will apparently run as usual, and CEO Scott Coker will remain at the helm. Fighter contracts will be honored as would broadcast deals and other business partnerships.

“There’s contracts in place,” White said. “These guys are on Showtime. Strikeforce pulls good ratings for Showtime.I think Showtime is happy with them. All those contracts will be honored.”

Sounds pretty swell eh? Dana White’s happy, the Fertittas are happy, Scott The Sell Out Coker is pretty happy; everybody’s dancing, holding hands and squeezing each other in gentle, non-threatening ways.

Fools! Read on.

WHY THIS IS GAMEOVER:

Are you freaking kidding me?

Dana White Playing Buys Out StrikeforceZuffa LLC, parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship recently bought out Strikeforce, a rival mixed martial arts promotion. There are very few credible competitors left in the Western Hemisphere. Zuffa practically owns everything.  Might as well rebrand themselves using a picture of North America. The only guys left are in Asia but DREAM, Sengoku and Art of War FC pretty much dwarf the UFC.

Aside from that…

I would hope there’s some cross promotion between the two venues. Fighters from UFC could take on fighters from Strikeforce, and so on. I guess there would be some extra flexibility and the dream matches that we all had in the back of our heads could finally come to fruition.

Fedor vs. Randy Couture, Alistair Overeem vs. Junior Dos Santos, Shinya Aoki vs. BJ Penn…

Or not, and this could just be some overtly expensive ploy to snuff out the careers of some choice fighters.
