Georgetown University’s men’s basketball team got into a brawl with China’s Bayi Rockets . The fight was incredible. Blows were exchanged and chairs were picked up to be swung. The game was originally scheduled to coincide with Joe Biden’s visit to China, kinda like Ping Pong Diplomacy – promoting goodwill between two countries.
I’m not entirely sure how this fine mess happened. Apparently Bayi’s Hu Ke got called out for a foul against Georgetown’s Jason Clark. Clark responded to the hard foul with a few words which prompted a shoving match.
Check out the craziness:
The Highlights:
The video is kinda low-res but you can kinda make out the events that preceded the brawl.
At around 0:05 you see both guys shoving and at 0:08 all hell ensues. I’m not sure, but I think some players were still trying to play the game. At 0:20 it gets real rough. Bayi player hammer fists Georgetown player then ground-and-pounds him for a good five seconds. Then you see a chair being thrown into the crowd. Afterwards the crowd jeers the Americans and throws water bottles at them.
