Whoa.
Fedor actually won a fight. Admittedly, it’s all quite unfair.
After losing three consecutive matches, I’ve constantly counted The Last Emperor out. When Fedor fought Jeff Monson a few weeks ago I kept telling friends (half-jokingly) that Monson would submit him with an anaconda choke in the 2nd round. I find that the more specific I get, the surer I am when it comes to fight predictions. Of course, that outcome never came into being and quite appropriately, Fedor smashed Monson’s thighs until it swelled to horse-like proportions.
A couple hours ago Fedor fought Satoshi Ishii at a humorously titled DREAM event.
Pretty typical Fedor action. The Russian Assassin throws beautifully wild punches that smack Ishii’s head. Overall, a clear, unambiguous victory.
Was I impressed? Not really. Surprised? Not at all.
Fedor’s at that point in his career where he’s picking 2nd tier competition. He’s hanging on and in some ways, I do admire that. But this is pure mercenary fighting. Not that prize-fighting by it’s very nature isn’t. I suppose I just don’t see the point in fighting entry-level opponents. Not when your career was built upon big, splashy wins.
Fedor should be fighting guys at the highest echelon. I want to see Fedor vs. Carwin, Fedor vs. Overeem. Couture might even come out of retirement if the money’s right.
Either that, or retire.
